Baba Yaga is a powerful recurring figure in Russian folklore. She flies through the sky in a pestle and mortar, portrayed as both terrifying and horrific. This classic fairytale follows a young girl, Vasilisa who eight years old when her mother dies. Ill-equipped to deal with the jealousy of her new stepmother and step sisters, she is sent into the deep forest to get fire from Baba Yaga.

The music for this show is influenced by the folk music of Keralia – a small country situated between Russia and Finland. Rachel Miller plays a wide variety of musical instruments using digital sound technology to record and loop the sounds live to build up evocative and beautiful textures that conjure the images and emotions of the tale.

“A captivating storyteller, creating a rich and atmospheric world, mysterious and delightful”.
